Answer to Question 1

It can be assumed that The Garratt College for Women had a hierarchy culture based on its tradition of stability and an internal focus. Their key values would have been centered on maintaining the status quo. However, the arrival of male students, accompanied with a change in the name of the college, and the introduction of pre-professional majors will cause a dramatic shift in the colleges mission and values. This probably will lead to the hiring of new faculty who are not committed to the colleges traditions of educating women of privilege. The end result may be the emergence of a market culture valuing stability while being responsive to external forces that have made the past mission obsolete.
