Answer to Question 1

Countertrade occurs when a firm accepts something other than money as payment for its goods or services. Its simplest form is barter, where each party simultaneously swaps products. In a counterpurchase arrangement or parallel barter, one firm sells its products to another at one point in time and is compensated in the form of the other's products at some future time. A buyback arrangement involves one firm selling capital goods to another and then being compensated in the form of the output generated as a result of their use. Finally, in an offset purchase arrangement, part of an exported good is produced in the importing country.
