Human resource management is the set of activities directed at attracting, developing, and maintaining the effective workforce necessary to achieve a firm's objectives. HRM includes recruiting and selecting nonmanagers and managers, providing training and development, appraising performance, and providing compensation and benefits.

Total quality management is an integrated effort to systematically and continuously improve the quality of an organization's products and/or services. Employee involvement, high-quality materials, up-to-date technology, and effective methods are necessary for TQM.
