Answer to Question 1

Working memory critically affects academic performance. A recent study of Brazilian schoolchildren assessed their working-memory skills (the ability to hold new information in their memory and manipulate that information) as well as their academic achievements. The study showed that working memory capacity is a good predictor of academic success (Engel de Abreu et al., 2014). These results also underscore the importance of early detection and intervention in children who may have weaker working- memory skills.

Answer to Question 2

According to Squire, there are two fundamental types of memory: declarative memory and nondeclarative memory. Declarative memory consists of semantic (facts) and episodic (events) memory. Nondeclarative memory consists of procedural skills, priming, conditioning and nonassociative learning (habituation and sensitization).

Chronic marijuana use can damage the white blood cells and reduce the immune system's ability to respond to disease by as much as 40%. Without a strong immune system, the body is vulnerable to all kinds of degenerative and infectious diseases.

Not getting enough sleep can greatly weaken the immune system. Lack of sleep makes you more likely to catch a cold, or more difficult to fight off an infection.

Immunoglobulin injections may give short-term protection against, or reduce severity of certain diseases. They help people who have an inherited problem making their own antibodies, or those who are having certain types of cancer treatments.
