Answer to Question 1

Communities of Practice refer to groups of people who work or socialize together for so long that they develop an identifiable way of doing things. These groups focus on capturing and spreading knowledge, ideas, innovations, and experiences. These groups are informal and hence not manageable in the traditional sense. However, since they can be major sources of strategies, problem solving and innovation in the organization, it is desirable to support them by providing communication infrastructure and executive recognition.
