Answer to Question 1

A
Autonomy is the right of people to make their own decisions, i.e., the right to self-determination. As nurses, our responsibility is to provide the patients with the information they need to make their own health care decisions. This process needs to be objective so the nurse does not project his or her opinions into the decision-making process.

Answer to Question 2

B
In their classic work Values and Teaching, Raths, Harmin, and Simon (1978) formulated a theory of values clarification. They proposed a three-step process which includes choosing (an analysis of alternative beliefs and their consequences), prizing (feeling satisfied with the choice), and acting (making the choice part of your behavior).
