Answer to Question 1

C
Values perform important functions in our lives and in the way we view and interact with the world around us. Some important functions of values are that they: 1) provide a set of rules to live by, 2) guide actions and decisions, 3) give direction to people's lives and help them to solve problems (not hinder problem solving), 4) influence how individuals perceive and react to others, 5) help determine basic attitudes concerning personal, social, and philosophical issues, 6) reflect an individual's identity, and 7) provide a basis for self-evaluation.

Answer to Question 2

D
Values are personal beliefs concerning the truth of ideas, standards, principles, objects, and behaviors that give meaning and direction to one's life. Teleology maintains that people must take the course of action that leads to good outcomes. Relativism concerns the belief system that there is no set of universal ethical standards. Morals or morality refers to behaviors according to certain customs or traditions, and usually reflects one's personal or religious beliefs.

Although the Roman numeral for the number 4 has always been taught to have been "IV," according to historians, the ancient Romans probably used "IIII" most of the time. This is partially backed up by the fact that early grandfather clocks displayed IIII for the number 4 instead of IV. Early clockmakers apparently thought that the IIII balanced out the VIII (used for the number 8) on the clock face and that it just looked better.
