The American Academy of Pediatrics guidelines recommend all of the following except:
 
  a. Primary care physicians should establish a management plan that recognizes ADHD as a chronic condition and should serve as a resource and clearinghouse for information
  b. Treating physician, family members, child, teachers, and psychologist should establish three to six treatment goals that encompass realistic and measurable outcomes
  c. The physician should recommend psychostimulant medication and or behavior therapy as a first-line of treatment
  d. In the case of children who do not benefit from Ritalin at the highest safe dose, considerations for another approved anti-stimulant medication should be examined for use
  e. Individuals, teachers, and families should be informed that the long-term use of stimulants has not been determined
