Answer to Question 1

C
Omission is not doing something that is ordered or normally expected as part of nursing care. Responses A, B, and D are legally correct and within the scope of the practical nurse.

Answer to Question 2

B
Preparation and timeliness facilitate the communication process in IDT meetings. Response A is a poor choice because it is inflexible. If a resident's condition is changing, more time may be required to update the resident's plan of care. Response C is also a poor choice. The nurse is not taking advantage of the diverse resources of the IDT in planning care. The resident and family are part of the IDT. Response D is inappropriate. Discussing resident and family concerns with the whole IDT group avoids miscommunication and deals with problems in a timely manner.

Dogs have been used in studies to detect various cancers in human subjects. They have been trained to sniff breath samples from humans that were collected by having them breathe into special tubes. These people included 55 lung cancer patients, 31 breast cancer patients, and 83 cancer-free patients. The dogs detected 54 of the 55 lung cancer patients as having cancer, detected 28 of the 31 breast cancer patients, and gave only three false-positive results (detecting cancer in people who didn't have it).
