Answer to Question 1

D
Although it is well known that a deficiency in calcium plays a role in the development of osteoporosis, it is not so well known that a lack of fluoride can also result in osteoporosis. Fluoride plays a significant role in bone and dental integrity. Although all the other minerals listed are important to normal body functioning, fluoride is specifically linked to bone metabolism.

Answer to Question 2

A
Hairless, transparent, shiny skin is a symptom of decreased peripheral circulation. Varicose veins (response B) are distended veins. Inflammation and redness (response C) are symptoms of infection or deep vein thrombosis. Pedal edema (response D) is a classic symptom of congestive heart failure. In congestive heart failure, the heart is an ineffective pump, and excess fluid moves into dependent interstitial spaces.
