Answer to Question 1

Studies suggest that different colors can raise or lower stress and energy levels. Warmer colors (peach, yellow, coral) can stimulate appetite and encourage alertness, creativity and socialization. Cooler colors (blues, greens, violets) are useful for restful, spiritual, quiet and contemplative areas. Primary colors are pleasing at first but can be overstimulating and may contribute to fatigue. Green symbolizes growth, healing and spirituality, and has been used to reduce tension and nervousness. Finally, monotonous color schemes contribute to sensory deprivation, disorganization of brain function, deterioration of intelligence and an inability to concentrate.

It is not a straight line, but "zig-zags" around various island chains. Therefore, Samoa and nearby islands have one date, while American Samoa and nearby islands are one day behind. Daylight saving time is used in some islands, but not in others—further shifting the hours out of sync with natural time.
