Answer to Question 1

PCPphencyclidinewas originally used as an anesthetic. It allowed patients to remain conscious yet feel no pain during a medical procedure, and afterward, they would experience amnesia for the time the drug had been in their system. However, its effects are unpredictable and sometimes drastic, ranging from pain relief and euphoria to nausea and vomiting, increased blood pressure, seizures, hallucinations, violent outbursts, delirium, coma, and even death. For this reason, it was withdrawn from clinical use.
