Answer to Question 1

Isotherms shift most over land because of the effect of differential heating of land and water.

Answer to Question 2

Ice melting into water or sublimating into vapor absorbs energy, as does water evaporating into vapor. Vapor condensing into liquid or undergoing deposition directly into ice and liquid freezing all release energy.
