Dry areas, such as the U.S. Southwest, are likely to experience more frequent droughts. The disappearance of mountain glaciers could threaten water supplies for some people. People living along or near coastlines may be displaced if sea level rises, potentially leading to refugee issues from low-lying countries like Bangladesh. Agriculture may be adversely impacted, particularly in regions that are already susceptible to droughts or that are already very warm.
