Answer to Question 1

Encountering high-quality examples in context most nearly approximates the construction of knowledge in natural settings in the real world. The examples become the experiences learners use to construct their knowledge.

Answer to Question 2

Guidelines for promoting transfer include the following: (1) Provide students with a variety of high-quality examples and other experiences, such as having students practice with a variety of word problems to promote problem solving, and constructing different concept maps to promote the transfer of study skills. (2) Apply content to real-world contexts whenever possible, such as having students solve percent increase and percent decrease problems with items they find in a local mall.
