Between 1950 and 1990, the number of women who worked outside the home climbed each year. The number of one-earner households declined rapidly, from over 50 percent to less than 25 percent; the percentage of women aged twenty-five to thirty-four who worked outside the home doubled, from 35 percent in 1950 to over 70 percent in 1990; and for the first time the number of children with mothers who worked exceeded the number of children with mothers at home. In 1950, 12 percent of all women with children under the age of six were in the labor force; in 1990, 57 percent of all such mothers worked outside the home. By 1990, more than 56 million American women worked, making up 45 percent of the work force, compared with 38 percent in 1970 . By the year 2000, women were expected to represent almost half of the labor force.

Question 2

Marketing occurs when people decide to satisfy needs and wants through exchange. Exchange is the act of obtaining a desired object from someone by offering something in return. Exchange is only one of many ways that people can obtain a desired object. For example, hungry people could find food by hunting, fishing, or gathering fruit. They could beg for food or take food from someone else; or they could offer money, another good, or a service in return for food.

Every flu season is different, and even healthy people can get extremely sick from the flu, as well as spread it to others. The flu season can begin as early as October and last as late as May. Every person over six months of age should get an annual flu vaccine. The vaccine cannot cause you to get influenza, but in some seasons, may not be completely able to prevent you from acquiring influenza due to changes in causative viruses. The viruses in the flu shot are killed—there is no way they can give you the flu. Minor side effects include soreness, redness, or swelling where the shot was given. It is possible to develop a slight fever, and body aches, but these are simply signs that the body is responding to the vaccine and making itself ready to fight off the influenza virus should you come in contact with it.
