Good investigators are motivated by more than the efforts of their superiors or the prestige normally associated with the job. True, identification as a federal agent or having the gold shield, increased earnings, and not having to wear a uniform are satisfying, but investigators' primary motivation comes from knowing that their skills will enable them to be assigned to the more challenging, complex, seemingly insoluble, and interminable cases. For truly good investigators, the more difficult an investigation, the greater the motivation to solve it.
Furthermore, consciously or subconsciously, they also are motivated by knowing that once their ability has been recognized, they will continue being assigned to high profile investigations.
