Important in most types of work, motivation often is thought of as a supervisory or managerial functiona need to motivate one's subordinates to do a good job. Although superiors in police or investigative agencies can help motivate investigators, much of their motivation is self generated. Good investigators are motivated by more than the efforts of their superiors or the prestige normally associated with the job. True, identification as a federal agent or having the gold shield, increased earnings, and not having to wear a uniform are satisfying, but investigators' primary motivation comes from knowing that their skills will enable them to be assigned to the more challenging, complex, seemingly insoluble, and interminable cases. For truly good investigators, the more difficult an investigation, the greater the motivation to solve it.

Furthermore, consciously or subconsciously, they also are motivated by knowing that once their ability has been recognized, they will continue being assigned to high profile investigations.

Question 2

Farmers long have known that measures must be taken to restore soil fertility. In traditional agricultural systems, this has meant a fallow period, a season when a field is allowed to rest and nothing is harvested from it. During this rest period the natural processes of plant growth, organic matter accumulation, mineral weathering, and biological activity can restore fertility. Earth's burgeoning population demands more agricultural products, so fallow periods have been reduced or eliminated. Many areas that once were fallowed now are cultivated every year, reducing or eliminating the opportunity to restore natural soil fertility.

What will be an ideal response?

Every flu season is different, and even healthy people can get extremely sick from the flu, as well as spread it to others. The flu season can begin as early as October and last as late as May. Every person over six months of age should get an annual flu vaccine. The vaccine cannot cause you to get influenza, but in some seasons, may not be completely able to prevent you from acquiring influenza due to changes in causative viruses. The viruses in the flu shot are killed—there is no way they can give you the flu. Minor side effects include soreness, redness, or swelling where the shot was given. It is possible to develop a slight fever, and body aches, but these are simply signs that the body is responding to the vaccine and making itself ready to fight off the influenza virus should you come in contact with it.
