Answer to Question 1

Answer: Historical records can record dates of crop harvests, droughts, floods, and other extreme weather events that could affect the population.

Answer to Question 2

Answer: Solar radiation in the form of shortwave radiation penetrates the atmosphere and warm's the Earth's surface. The shortwave radiation can easily penetrate the atmosphere, including the greenhouse gases. The Earth later re-emits the heat in the form of longwave radiation. Longwave radiation cannot penetrate the greenhouse gases in the atmosphere, resulting in warming of the near-surface atmosphere.
