Answer to Question 1

ANS: A
In VA support, the venous cannulas are placed in the same locations as with VV support with the arterial cannula inserted into the aorta or either femoral artery.

Answer to Question 2

ANS: A
Unlike some of the optional parameters monitored during ECMO support, monitoring of antico-agulation parameters on a routine basis is essential. The activated clotting time (ACT) is most of-ten used as the primary test for anticoagulation at the bedside. The ACT is a low-cost point of care test that gives a quick assessment of anticoagulation.
