ANS: C
In the care of patients with severe hypoxemia, acute right-sided heart failure, or shock, thrombo-lytic therapy may be administered for lysis of the emboli. However, for patients with no evidence of hypotension, thrombolytic administration has to be individualized. When thrombolytic therapy with streptokinase and urokinase is used, heparin should not be infused concurrently.

Therapy with heparin, whether unfractionated or low molecular weight, followed by oral couma-rin in a regimen similar to that for acute deep venous thrombosis is the treatment of choice.
