Answer to Question 1

ANS: A
High-frequency jet ventilation operates by passing gas from a high-pressure source through a var-iable regulator that reduces the pressure to the desired working level. The gas passes through a device, usually a solenoid or a fluidic valve, which governs the amount and duration of flow. The gas jet is delivered through a specially made triple-lumen endotracheal tube, which is similar to conventional endotracheal tubes except that two additional small lines are added. One line is for delivering jet ventilation, and the other is for monitoring distal airway pressures.

Answer to Question 2

ANS: B
The pressure-time waveform is raised from the zero line; this means that there is positive end-expiratory pressure. The flat pressure wave is indicative of pressure-limited breaths. The higher level represents the ventilator pressure-limited breath, and the lower level waveform rep-resents the pressure-supported breaths.

When Gabriel Fahrenheit invented the first mercury thermometer, he called "zero degrees" the lowest temperature he was able to attain with a mixture of ice and salt. For the upper point of his scale, he used 96°, which he measured as normal human body temperature (we know it to be 98.6° today because of more accurate thermometers).
