Answer to Question 1

ANS: D
During REM sleep, there is hypotension with significant phasic elevations in blood pressure. During non-REM and REM sleep, cardiac output is slightly decreased. Bradycardia and vasodi-lation occur during slow-wave sleep.

Answer to Question 2

ANS: B
Three electrodes are typically affixed to the chin with tape. Two of these electrodes are placed between the tip of the chin and the hyoid bone, lateral to each other and 2 cm apart; a third elec-trode is placed in the center of the chin.

People who have myopia, or nearsightedness, are not able to see objects at a distance but only up close. It occurs when the cornea is either curved too steeply, the eye is too long, or both. This condition is progressive and worsens with time. More than 100 million people in the United States are nearsighted, but only 20% of those are born with the condition. Diet, eye exercise, drug therapy, and corrective lenses can all help manage nearsightedness.

When Gabriel Fahrenheit invented the first mercury thermometer, he called "zero degrees" the lowest temperature he was able to attain with a mixture of ice and salt. For the upper point of his scale, he used 96°, which he measured as normal human body temperature (we know it to be 98.6° today because of more accurate thermometers).
