Answer to Question 1

The Right or Left marker should be placed above the shoulder.

Rationale: The best placement of the Right or Left marker on the PA chest would be above the shoulders. With this placement, the marker will not obscure any pertinent anatomy as it might when it is placed low (by the costophrenic angle). Placing the marker beside the patient could result in obscuring the lateral lung.

Answer to Question 2

T2-3

Rationale: The jugular notch is an external landmark that corresponds to thoracic vertebrae level of 2/3 . The Adam's Apple/Thyroid cartilage corresponds to C5 and the Vertebrae Prominens corresponds to C7.

This is partially backed up by the fact that early grandfather clocks displayed IIII for the number 4 instead of IV. Early clockmakers apparently thought that the IIII balanced out the VIII (used for the number 8) on the clock face and that it just looked better.
