Which of the following describes the best method of R/L marker placement on the PA chest?
 
 The Right or Left marker should be placed low on the image receptor.
  Any of these marking locations is sufficient.
  The Right or Left marker should be placed directly beside the rib cage.
  The Right or Left marker should be placed above the shoulder.

Answer to Question 1

The Right or Left marker should be placed above the shoulder.

Rationale: The best placement of the Right or Left marker on the PA chest would be above the shoulders. With this placement, the marker will not obscure any pertinent anatomy as it might when it is placed low (by the costophrenic angle). Placing the marker beside the patient could result in obscuring the lateral lung.

Rationale: The jugular notch is an external landmark that corresponds to thoracic vertebrae level of 2/3 . The Adam's Apple/Thyroid cartilage corresponds to C5 and the Vertebrae Prominens corresponds to C7.
