When assessing a patient, if a history of sensitivity to substances that contain iodine, shellfish, or Betadine is present, then a test dose may be given before the procedure. True shellfish allergies are not related to iodine.

After the age of 50 years, every woman should have a yearly mammogram. Mammography is not contraindicated in women with breast implants. Men with suspicious breast lesions or pronounced gynecomastia should have a mammogram.
