Answer to Question 1

Complications associated with administering oral pastes include oral trauma, the animal
spitting out the paste, buccal ulceration, aspiration pneumonia, and injury to personnel
administering the paste.

Answer to Question 2

Horses are placed in right lateral recumbency. Right lateral recumbency provides better
access to the stomach and large colon. Cattle are placed in left lateral recumbency. Placing
the left side down prevents the rumen from obscuring other abdominal structures.
