Based on caring theory the intervention that would help the client increase compliance with the medication is to discuss the client's feelings about taking the medication. Allowing the client to discuss his feelings would indicate that the nurse is interested in the client and is actively listening to the client's concerns. The nurse is acknowledging the client's feelings and integrating them into a framework of understanding.

The home health nurse made the referral based on her own beliefs regarding normal behavior and indications of mental illness.
