Ginkgo interacts with anticoagulants and antiplatelet agents and may cause spontaneous bleeding. Aspirin is such an agent, and alcohol use can predispose to gastric bleeding due to gastric irritation, so both behaviors put the patient at increased risk. Ginkgo should be used with caution by individuals who consume alcohol or who have other risk factors for hemorrhagic stroke.
