Answer to Question 1

When pruning larger limbs, always employ the three-cut method. This will ensure bark will not be
stripped from the trunk when the limb is separated. Correct cutting of large limbs will leave only a
small heel of the former branch. When pruning smaller branches, it is best to make a cut just above a
node, the place where leaves and axillary buds emerge from the stem.

Answer to Question 2

Many interiorscapers remove older leaves on plants prior to installation in order to save a bit of
maintenance down the road, but perhaps more importantly, to avoid customer complaints about dying
plants because the older leaves are the first to yellow and die. Also, many clients do not like to see
plants trimmed. They do not understand the importance of an overall healthy look and feel as though
the technician is hurting the plant.
