An animal may be temporarily confined without violating USDA organic production standards for reasons of:

1 . Health
2 . Safety
3 . The animals' stage of production
4 . To protect soil or water quality

Answer to Question 2

If an animal being raised in an organic livestock facility becomes sick or injured, the producer is prohibited from withholding treatment. If the animal is treated with a prohibited medication, the animal cannot be sold as organic.
