As a female comes into estrus, her behavior changes. A cow may bellow, mill around restlessly, and allow other cows to mount her. Sows will mount other sows, appear restless, frequently urinate, and grunt loudly. Often during mating, male animals become more aggressive or belligerent toward other animals and humans. As the end of gestation approaches, females display behavior that indicates the approach of birth. After the offspring are born, the mother will become more aggressive and protective of her young.
