Answer to Question 1

For highbush blueberries, the pruning procedure is as follows:
Keep the center of the bush open by removing old and weak wood.
 Remove low-hanging branches.
Cut off most of the small slender branches at ground level, leaving only strong
vigorous shoots and branches.
Remove some old branches to ground level each year.
The rabbiteye blueberry is vigorous enough that pruning is not needed to produce
strong new growth. The fruit ripens later and over a longer period of time than the
highbush blueberry.

Answer to Question 2

The highbush blueberry grows best in moist, acidic soil with a pH range of 4.6 to 5.0 is
best. The soil must have good drainage.
