Aristotle noted the connection between gluttony, obesity, and shortened lifespan.

Nutrients are the chemicals required by the body to sustain life; essential nutrients cannot be synthesized by the body. Primary nutrients include glucose, amino acids, essential fatty acids, other fatty acids, vitamins, and minerals.
