Answer to Question 1

Can utilize fiber (cellulose) because rumen microbes have enzyme cellulose, microbes can synthesize protein from a nitrogen source, microbes can synthesize water soluble vitamins

Answer to Question 2

Passed in 1862; granted 160 acres after 5 years residence; encouraged large numbers of people to move west for farming purposes.
