A nurse observes a nursing assistant (NAP) fail to wash her hands before and after placing a patient on a bedpan. When giving negative feedback to the NAP, the nurse should:
 
  1) Be certain to offer constructive criticism about the task and do so in private.
  2) Ask the unit manager to be present to document responses of both parties.
  3) Call a meeting of all NAPs and stress hand washing to the entire group.
  4) Keep a record of the NAP's actions and save them for her annual formal review.
