It is used to facilitate gynecologic (female reproductive), urologic, and sometimes rectal examinations. The dorsal recumbent position is a reclining position with the knees bent, hips rotated outward, and feet flat. In the Sims' position, the client lies on the left side with the chest leaning forward and the right knee bent toward the head. In the kneechest position, the client rests on the knees and chest.
