Answer to Question 1

ANS: D
The intravenous (IV) route is commonly used in pediatric therapy. For some drugs, it is the only effective route. When a drug is administered intravenously, the effect is almost instantaneous, and further control is limited. Most drugs intended for IV administration require a specified minimum dilution and/or rate of infusion.

Answer to Question 2

ANS: C
Passively acquired maternal IgG antibodies protect most full-term newborns against a variety of infectious agents until the immature immune system mechanisms begin to function between the ages of 2 and 3 months.
