Foods that suppress calcium absorption include bran, whole grain cereals, beets, rhubarb, Swiss chard, and spinach. Oral calcium should not be administered with these foods.
Legumes (eg, peas and beans) and fruits (eg, apples and oranges) do not affect calcium absorp-tion.
