Answer to Question 2

A
A. Hold needle bevel up and insert at 45-degree angle into artery.
B. Use 23- to 25-gauge needle.
C. Aspirate 0.5 ml sodium heparin into syringe, and then eject all heparin in barrel out of syringe.
D. Allow arterial pulsations to pump 2 to 3 ml of blood into heparinized syringe slowly to reduce presence of air bubbles.
