C. Surgical history is an important area to assess, but not as critical as allergy history, which can be life threatening.
D. Drug tolerance is an important area to assess, but not as critical as allergy history, which can be life threatening.

Answer to Question 2

A
A. Hold needle bevel up and insert at 45-degree angle into artery.
B. Use 23- to 25-gauge needle.
C. Aspirate 0.5 ml sodium heparin into syringe, and then eject all heparin in barrel out of syringe.
D. Allow arterial pulsations to pump 2 to 3 ml of blood into heparinized syringe slowly to reduce presence of air bubbles.
