Answer to Question 1

A
In the adult, between 100 and 300 mL of fluid may drain from a posterior tube during the first 3 hours after insertion. The 24-hour rate is 500 to 1000 mL.

Answer to Question 2

B
B. Dunlop's traction is a simultaneous horizontal form of Buck's extension to the humerus with an accompanying vertical Buck's extension to the forearm.
A. Bryant's traction is a vertically held type of bilateral traction to the legs. This type of traction can be used for children weighing less than 35 to 40 lb.
C. Pelvic sling (Weil sling) is traction consisting of a hammocklike belt wherein the sling cradles the pelvis in its boundaries for treatment of one or more fractures of the pelvic bones.
D. Buck's extension provides temporary immobilization of hip fracture until open reduction and internal fixation (ORIF) can be performed. It is also used to reduce muscle spasms, contractures, and dislocations and occasionally as an interim treatment for lumbosacral muscle spasms causing low back pain.
