A primary care NP orders thyroid function tests. The patient's TSH is 1.2 microunits/mL, and T4 is 1.7 ng/mL. The NP should:

Primary hypothyroidism is the most common form of hypothyroidism. Use of certain drugs, such as lithium, and diseases such as Hashimoto's thyroiditis can cause hypothyroidism but are less likely. The patient does not have signs of hyperthyroidism.

Antidiarrheals are not recommended in children. Opioids are contraindicated in children younger than 2 years. Bismuth and attapulgite are not recommended in children younger than 3 years of age. Oral rehydration with electrolyte solution is safe for young children.
