 The Maghrib includes Arab countries in the western part of Northern AfricaMorocco, Mauritania, Algeria, Tunisia, and Libya.
 The Mashriq includes Egypt, Sudan, and the other countries in the eastern Arab world that are east of Egypt and north of the Arabian Peninsulasee question 1 above.
 Andalusia is the area where the Arab, Islamic empire extended north into Europe from 711 until the Spanish Inquisition in 1515. A diverse civilization developed in Andalusia, anchored by court centers in Granada, Crdoba, and Seville that boasted a rich artistic life.

 Further attempts to collect Arab music and to codify repertoire, musical forms, scales, and rhythms were made in the twentieth century (e.g., Egypt sponsoring the Congress of Arab Music in 1932, which assembled Arab theorists and performers along with European music scholars).
