Answer to Question 1

Tidal stream generators use a turbine, which is anchored in moving water, to turn a gearbox and generator. The natural flow of water causes the turbine blades to rotate and drive the gearbox. A shaft connects the output to the generator.

Average irradiance = 0.4(200 W/m2) + 0.6(1000 W/m2) = 680 W/m2 (during sunlight hours
