How is density determined, and how do the densities of the terrestrial and jovian worlds relate to their distances from the Sun?

What will be an ideal response?

Question 2

Which statement about stellar motion is incorrect?

  B) The radial velocity is measured by the Doppler shift.
  C) The transverse velocity is measured by the proper motion and the distance.
  D) Like parallax, proper motion is measured over intervals of exactly six months.

Answer to Question 1

Density is mass per unit volume; all terrestrials have been heated by the Sun enough to drive away lighter gases, so they are rocky worlds with densities between 3-6 g/cc, while all jovians formed far enough out to be made of lighter hydrogen and helium, and have densities much less than any of the inner worlds.

Answer to Question 2

D
