The steam point determined by the student's thermometer may be lower because the
standard thermometer is calibrated at sea level where the air pressure is greater.

Answer to Question 2

The percentage error is equal to the absolute difference between the temperature
measured with the laboratory thermometer and the student's calibrated thermometer
divided by the laboratory thermometer reading  100.
