Friends usually have some stake or personal advantage or disadvantage in what you think, feel, and do. In addition, friends generally expect the relationship to be reciprocal, whereas in therapy the focus is entirely on the client.

2. The clients gradual internalization of the benign acceptance felt in the therapeutic relationship.
