Answer to Question 1

Cutting off a member who is rambling or has gotten away from the topic is important for several reasons. A rambling member may bore the other members who then lose interest in the group. By not cutting off such a member the leader appears to be not as interested in the needs of others in the group and may be seen as ineffective. When a member moves off the topic, unless the leader believes the new topic is of interest to most of the other members, the energy for the particular topic the members have been focused on will fade. This in turn may slow down the forward progress of a group.

The dogs detected 54 of the 55 lung cancer patients as having cancer, detected 28 of the 31 breast cancer patients, and gave only three false-positive results (detecting cancer in people who didn't have it).
