 Family characteristics (such as family size, socioeconomic status). A large or not-well-off family may have more difficulty meeting the needs of a child with disabilities than a small affluent family.
 Family interaction (such as husband-wife relationships). Parents may be protective, dependent, independent, cooperative with each other; other siblings may be supportive, competitive, rebellious.
 Family functions (such as economic functions, recreation functions). The family of a child with a disability may need to plan its recreation carefully to allow for the fullest possible participation of all the children.
